Got a job!
by kingthomas ... March 20, 2012, 01:55:56 PM
Man I have not been on here in a long time. Just thought I'd see if people were still checking this place out. Anyways, started working at a local web development company. A group of us our trying to expand the company into games.

Wondering what everyone else is up to.

Congratulations man.

Yeah this place is actually still active, though the boards that are currently active are not visible to your user account for project NDA reasons.

We've got a few large scale games in development at the moment, and several new local team members.

I've been on #nogdus every day (just not all-day every day like I used to be) but its nearly always quiet in there still.
Haven't seen you on there in ages. I've been wonder... Read More

Flash
by kingthomas ... November 16, 2010, 03:47:20 AM
I have started working on Flash games using FlashPunk: http://www.flashpunk.net. I am really enjoying Flash because I can quickly get my game to thousands of players and make a little money. I'm hoping one of my games will eventually take off and will try to keep learning from all my projects.

I'm really getting into flash development now. I feel like I need a good idea now and I can start becoming successful. I'll keep working on it.

59DaysOfCode
by kingthomas ... June 03, 2010, 12:28:24 PM
I entered a local contest called 59DaysOfCode. As the name implies contestants have 59 days to make a program. It has to be a mobile or web application. Now there are about 19 days left. (I don't know why I didn't post something here before this). I am working on a collaborative paint program. What I have so far can be seen at http://www.stableelement.com/Stable_Element_Paint.htm. Please give me some feedback.

I am resurrecting this project. Purchased some server space to run the server. Will have it up and running shortly, faster and better than before.

I did decently well. Didn't get into the top 3, but many people expressed interest, including the Computer Science department chair, who wants to to work with me to develop it further. Going to move on to something more fun and game-like.

Stuff is coming along pretty well, showcase is tomorrow and I have the networking part done, even if it is a little laggy (or very laggy). Trying to add a few more features before the showcase. If you happen to check http://www.stableelement.com/Stable_Element_Paint.htm while I have the server running you can check it out.

Archiving
by kingthomas ... April 17, 2010, 01:32:22 AM
I am archiving all my current projects for the time being. I have too many right now. Going to work on something simple to try and get something done.

My vote would be C++

Now the question is Java or C++...

I know Java better, but C++ will probably be better for future projects, since it will run faster.

JOGL Game Engine
by kingthomas ... March 05, 2010, 02:56:24 AM
Haven't decided whether I want it to be open-source or commercial, but I am working on a JOGL game engine. It will be object-oriented. I'm still learning some of OpenGL and working on the design of the engine.

I've actually had some significant success in this so far. Basic geometric shapes can now be drawn with a few simple commands. Also, I got a simple model file loader done with the help of redslash. I'm going to ignore more complex model loading for now. Adding a physics engine to the project as well.

I set-up JOGL on my laptop now, so I can get more work done while at school in between classes. Am beginning work on the model loading now.
