Windows Games Laggy in Wine? (Possible Solution)

(1/1)

Richard Marks:
Use this to launch your favorite complicated 3d games in wine, using a new X server instance-- should reduce lag times.
Code:

#!/bin/sh
#
# be sure to chmod +x this file
# save it as launch_yourgamenamehere.sh
# run it from a terminal
# Launch script for running complex games in wine

# open new X session on display #3
# if you don't use nvidia remove the nvidia part
sudo X :3 -ac -terminate & nvidia-settings --load-config-only

# change to the game directory
cd "$HOME/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/MyGame/"

# wait 2 seconds because X doesn't start immediately
sleep 2

# launch the game
# make sure you provide the whole path to the game exe
DISPLAY=:3 WINEDEBUG=-all wine "$HOME/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/MyGame/game.exe"

But the rule of thumb is to not tell people about something unless you know it works...
